About Charity Trust

The Akshaya Patra Foundation is a children charitable trust in India. This charitable trust in India was started in June 2000 in Bengaluru. It implements the mid-day meal programme in Government schools under the aegis of Central Government and various State Governments. This charity for children serves mid-day meals to 1.76 million school children every day.

Though the primary role of this charitable trust in India is to provide mid-day meal to school children, yet it greatly emphasises on education too. “No child in India shall be deprived of education because of hunger”- the vision statement of the Foundation further makes it evident. The first step toward this vision was taken by Akshaya Patra by feeding 1500 children in 5 Government schools of Bangalore. This humble beginning gradually led this charitable trust in India to spread its reach beyond just one location.

Currently, the total reach of this charity for children in Karnataka is 4,49,079 children across 2,887 schools. The reach of this charity for children in Andhra Pradesh is 62,024 children in 612 schools. It feeds 32,292 children in Assam’s 585 schools. 13,139 children of 175 schools in Chhattisgarh gets mid-day meal every day by this charitable trust in India. In Gujarat, it reaches out to 3,99,112 children covering 1,545 schools. In Maharashtra, the Foundation serves meals 22,203 children in 207 schools. In Odisha, it presently serves mid-day meals to 1,980 schools thereby nourishing 1,50,375 children. The total reach of this charity for children in Rajasthan is 2,18,479 children in 2,314 schools. 2,76,819 children of 3,294 schools is the current reach of this charitable trust in Uttar Pradesh. Akshaya Patra in Tamil Nadu feeds around 731 children in 1 school. The charity reaches out to 1,01,232 children of 1,056 schools in Telangana. In Tripura, 910 children from 02 schools are benefitted by Akshaya Patra’s programme. On the whole, the total reach of children charitable trust in India is 1.76 million children across 15,024 Government schools.

Apart from regular mid-day meal programme, Akshaya Patra has also taken up other feeding initiatives like the below mentioned:
