Mid Day Meal

The mid-day meal scheme in India has seen many positive impacts. The mid-day meal scheme has increased the number of school enrolments, improved daily school attendance and bettered the concentration and performance level of the children. The introduction of the mid-day meal scheme in Government schools has also reduced school drop-out rate significantly.

Akshaya Patra is an implementing arm of the mid-day meal scheme in India. By implementing the mid-day meal scheme it foresees to counter the twin challenges of hunger and illiteracy. The fresh, nutritious and wholesome Akshaya Patra mid-day meal across India acts as an incentive for both parents and children. The parents send their children with the hope that the children will receive at least one wholesome meal in a day. Thus, once the children are at school, they receive the dual benefit of food and education. Akshaya Patra’s strive to provide “unlimited food for education” also gets gradually achieved through the mid-day meal scheme as more and more children join school and receive the goodness of education.
